The GHRC is a member of the DAAC Alliance. The NASA Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) are the data management and user services branches of NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). The DAACs process, archive, document, and distribute data from NASA's past and current Earth science research satellites and field measurement programs. In an effort to continually provide improved data services to the science community the DAACs have begun offering more online data and services. These online repositories have been termed “Data Pools”. The Data Pool is a concept that was proposed by the Science Working Group on Data (SWGD). Data Pools use a large (i.e., many TB) disk cache at each DAAC to hold EOS data after initial insertion for an extended period (varies depending on the data and pool resources). The contents of the cache are tuned to the needs of the user community. The goal is to increase the distribution capacity of the EOS Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Core System (ECS) by a factor of five by significantly reducing the need to access a tape archive. In addition, user access to this data should be made faster and easier.

The GHRC Data Pool provides online access to Passive Microwave data through conventional FTP or through more customized capabilities allowing users to search for specific data products and then choose to have their ordered packaged for download.
